Students chose an animation licensed for fair use (Vimeo.com) and then created ALL original Foley sound effects using found objects. Foley sound effects help to enhance and support what is happening in a scene and are rarely a main focal point. They help to tell the story!

Students chose from a variety of “mini-projects” to create throughout the quarter. Like the “Bingo” game, they had to complete four projects that were next to each other on the board (vertical, horizontal, diagonal). Some projects were more interesting for students to create than others, yet each type of project focused on a certain digital music skill.

Students chose a favorite location on campus. They observed the sounds around them for 5 minutes. The next day, they went back and recorded as many sounds from that location as possible to help capture the soundscape they remembered.

LittleBits are small pieces that fit together magnetically to create a larger circuit. The LittleBits Synth kit allows students to create their own mini synthesizer (using comcepts of synthesis) to understand the more “mechanical” aspects of sound formation. Here are two tutorials about how to make sounds with the LittleBits Synth Kit.
